The Lower Neponset River, flowing through Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, and Milton, was designated an EPA Superfund Site in 2022. Decades of industrial activity left toxic chemicals behind, affecting communities along its banks. Yet, the river often goes unseen. Boston Latin School senior Lucy Zhang created the exhibit “Voices of the Lower Neponset River” to change that as her Senior Capstone project. Using watercolor portraits and interviews, Lucy highlighted 14 local advocates working to protect the river and support their neighborhoods.
