Basketball – Class V & VI (Owens) Class V-VI-Updated
Tryouts for the Class V and VI Basketball teams will be on Tuesday 3/31 in the lower gym. Boys will be 2:30-3:45, Girls will be 3:45-5. There has been some confusion and difficulty pertaining to registration. The athletic department encourages all interested students to attend the tryout and registration will be solved after teams are determined.

To wrap up Women’s History Month, BLS BLACK (Black Leaders Aspiring for Change and Knowledge) is partnering once again with BLS BAN (Black Alumni Network) for the last and most exciting career panel on Tuesday, March 31, in Room 114. Although the panelist will be virtual, the conversation will be live!
Overall Event Purpose: To provide BLS students—especially girls of color—with meaningful exposure to a range of health care professionals during Women’s History Month, highlighting health careers as a powerful and attainable pathway forward. Through this engagement, students will gain guidance, motivation, and real-world insight, while fostering connections that may lead to future mentorship and continued support.

Faculty vs Students Dodgeball – Tickets Available Now (Levesque) All Classes-Updated
The annual Faculty vs Student Dodgeball Game, hosted by Student Council, will occur this Friday, March 27 after school, 2:30-3:30, in the Lower Gym. Tickets are available outside the Dining Hall during lunch on Thursday and Friday. Confirmed faculty players – Mr. Fearon, Mr. Hooker, Mr. Boor, Mr. Gordon, Mr. Greenidge, and HOS Mr. Gallagher. Ms. Encarnacao and Ms. Collins will help run the games.
Ticket prices are $3 before and $5 at the door, and all proceeds will be donated to the Boston Bullpen Project.
Class V and VI Basketball (Owens) Class VI, V-Updated
The Basketball program will be returning this spring for all interested students in Class V and VI. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday March 25 at 2:30pm. Boys will meet in Room 223, Girls will meet in Room 224. All students must register via ASPEN (Registration Link). More details about format and schedule will be discussed at these meetings. The tryout will be on Tuesday March 31.

Please join me in congratulating Lauren Dong (Class II) and Jason Zhang (Class II), in receiving a scholarship of an all expenses paid 3 week long stay in Germany this summer. They, alongside Sunil Hegde (Class III) from German 3, who has been waitlisted, scored in the 90th percentile on their respective National Exams and following that achievement, completed several challenging assessments in order to be chosen for this scholarship.
Their hard work paid off.

South Africa Trip Reunion! (Pinchem) All Classes
Molweni (Hello in Xhosa), BLS community! It’s been 3 weeks since we returned from the most amazing trip ever to South Africa. Everyone is invited to our post-trip reunion on Tuesday, March 24, from 4-5 PM in the Seevak room. The students and chaperones who visited Johannesburg and Cape Town last month will be sharing their pictures/videos, telling stories, and answering questions about their 9-day trip that took place over February break. Come hear what they have to say about their international travel experience and learn more about the upcoming trip in 2027.
One of our special guests is Mr. Ed Burley, ’91. He will share his experience as a BLS alumnus and as a parent of a student currently attending school in Cape Town. Light refreshments will be served.

A.S.I.A. x Northeastern Mental Health Panel (Luu and Chen) All Classes-Updated
BLS A.S.I.A. will be hosting a mental health panel in collaboration with the Northeastern University RRE Lab THIS FRIDAY, March 20th @2:30 pm in room 236. Students will have a chance to learn about mental health stigma surrounding Asian American youth and there will be a Q&A session with psychology graduate students and mental health professionals. Students of all backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to bring a friend!

– Yearbook payments: $100 cash (preferred) or $100 check (made to Boston Latin School: Yearbook). Venmo/Zelle/CashApp will not be accepted at this time
– What do you get?: 200 pages of glossy, full-color pages bound in hardcover. The cost of $100 has been the same since the 90s, so we are getting a good deal on the cost! Payments can be brought to Mx. Amico in room 237. I will be available after school for the foreseeable future between 2:15 – 2:20. Please do not leave money on my desk or mailbox unattended.
– It is strongly preferred for payments to be made sooner (we need to pay the publisher, after all!) rather than later, though payments will be accepted until books come in
– Yearbooks will be available for pick up, per BLS tradition, at the Thanksgiving pep rally. This means that senior activities (senior sunset, prom, and graduation) will all be featured in the Yearbook!

DECA Advances to Nationals (Levesque) All Classes
Last weekend, 30 BLS students competed in the DECA State competition at the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center, where 4,100 students from across Massachusetts gathered to take business exams, respond to case studies, and deliver professional presentations. The following BLS students advanced and qualified for the DECA national competition in Atlanta, GA in April: Tyler Osborne (I), Sophia Fortuin (II), Benson Wong (II), Sam Parsi (II), Cristina Lopez Tran (II), Victoria Liu (II), Anneliese Yu (III), and Nang Dang (III). Congratulations and well done.

Stock Market Challenge (Levesque) Class IV, III, II, I
Deitch Leadership Institute will partner with Junior Achievement (JA) to offer an interactive program introducing students to the stock market. Mr. Levesque will facilitate five workshops on investment fundamentals – buying, selling, IPOs, dividends, and risk/return. Students will build an online investment portfolio and compete for the largest return on investment. Qualifying teams will advance to the JA Stock Market Challenge on April 30 off campus. Join the Boston high school ultimate frisbee team this spring! Players from BLS and other city schools join forces to compete in the state high school league, including games, tournaments, and the state championship in late May. Players new and old will learn the skills and strategies, the rules (the sport is self-officiated), make friends with teammates from across the city, and have a blast. Please note that effective Monday, March 16, the lunch schedule rotates so that those students who have had first lunch most recently will head to second lunch, those with second lunch will have third lunch, and students who have had third lunch will go to first lunch:

Come Audition for Chicago: Teen Edition (Gels) All Classes
Come audition for BLS Theatre’s production of Chicago. Monday March 16 and March 17 after school. Audition sign ups are on the bulletin board across the black box. There is a monologue, song, and short dance to learn. Don’t let any one element keep you from auditioning. At minimum, everyone is cast in the ensemble and we will help teach you the skills you need.

Federal Bar Association – Civics Essay Contest (Segal) Class IV, III, II, I
Each year, the Federal Bar Association invites high school students to address current topics in civics. Scholarships are awarded for first, second, and third place in grades 9-12.
Students are provided a detailed prompt with summaries of applicable court cases to consider. The maximum essay length is 1,000 words.

Come see Encore performances of BLS Theatre’s My Love Lies Frozen In the Ice (Gels) All Classes
Boston Latin School is moving on to the Semifinals of Massachusetts High School Drama Festival! My Love Lies Frozen by Dead Rabbits Theatre is a piece about a trio of explorers trying to reach the North Pole in a hot air balloon and the woman who has a mental break when they don’t come back. It’s a beautiful 40 minute piece about the determination of the human spirit and the power of love. The right mix of hilarious and heartbreaking.
At the preliminary round we received All Star Company awards for acting for all four of our leads, for technical direction, and dramaturgy.
We will have encore school based performances on
- Thursday March 12 at 3pm and 7pm
- Friday March 13 at 3pm

Faculty-Student Talent Show (Encarnacao) All Classes
Join us for an afternoon of fun and community at the Faculty-Student Talent Show! Come watch your favorite members of the faculty and administration step out of their comfort zones. On Friday, March 13th, head to the auditorium at 2:30 PM for a show full of surprises. Some faculty will strut their stuff in a fashion show, while others will sing, dance, step, juggle, or even share a joke. Tickets are $5 ahead of time or $7 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit the junior and senior classes. The show will last about one hour. Spread the Word: Inclusion (Walker) All Classes

This month, the class of 2027 committee will host a bracket-style fundraiser to raise funds for our Junior Prom! This week, we are raising funds to choose a faculty member who will perform a special choreographed routine with a member of the committee. On Monday (3/2), Wednesday (3/4), and Thursday (3/5), committee members will be outside the dining hall during all three lunches with jars dedicated to the competing faculty.
Congratulations to Mr. Fogel and Mr. Gallagher for being our two finalists! To decide who will perform the special routine with us, we are asking our school community to donate. Whether it’s a dollar or fifty cents, every penny counts!

Princeton Certamen Success! (Howard) All Classes-Updated
On Saturday, February 28th our teams competed against schools from all over the country at the Princeton Invitational Certamen Tournament. All the teams did very well, each competing in a bracket of as many as 27 teams.

Purim Celebration (Segal) All Classes
The Jewish Culture Club welcomes anyone and everyone to join our Purim celebration on March 4 after school in the Schawbel center! The Schawbel Center is located right behind the alma mater statue, on the first floor, to the right of the library doors. Purim is a holiday celebrating the freedom of the Jewish people from ancient Persia, where people dress in costumes, eat cookies, learn about the Purim story, and participate in charity. We will be offering food, as well as putting together goody bags for those in need this holiday season. Come to learn more about the holiday, eat cookies, and earn community service hours!
2026 Football Information Meeting (Butler) All Classes
Everyone interested in playing football in the fall of 2026 will meet in room 027 on Wednesday, March 4th during W Block. We will go over academic and athletic eligibility, spring lifting schedule, the return of our spring pentathlon, summer camps and preseason dates. Any questions you have will be answered. This meeting is for all levels (varsity & subvarsity). Please see Coach Butler prior to this meeting if you have any conflicts.

Rising Juniors and Seniors, As you are still considering your elective courses for next school year, I cordially invite you to our last and final “Try it Tuesdays” on Tuesday, March 3, during R6. You are welcome to visit the AP African American Studies class for 15 minutes and get a “taste” of what the course has to offer.
