The Boston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is having their 3rd annual “Holiday Wreath with a Purpose” fundraiser to support scholarships and educational enrichment for Boston youth. In June, the sorority was able to give away over $12,000 in scholarships through their yearlong fundraising efforts. In June of this year, a large portion of those scholarships went directly to 4 BLS students in the Class of 2020. Are you ready for this holiday season? Well prepare your voices and some hot cocoa for BLS ASIA’s 21st Annual Holiday Sing-Off (virtual edition) on December 23rd! Sing-Off is an annual event hosted by ASIA in which participants sing and perform to compete for prizes. This year, our top three winners—chosen by our live audience—will receive gift cards for their performances!

Since Sing-Off 2020 is virtual this year, we have expanded our range of performances to include comedic sketches, stand up comedy bits, or any other types of unique non-singing performances. We encourage everybody to audition alongside our singers!

The Perry Initiative is partnering with UConn Orthopedics & Sports Medicine for a Perry Virtual Experience exclusively for residents of the CT/RI/MA tristate area. Friends of the Arts is now accepting entries of artwork to be chosen as the virtual program cover for the 2020 Virtual Winter Arts Showcase program. The contest is open to all BLS students, and there is one $100 first prize and two $50 runner-up prizes. This year’s program will be entirely virtual, but will nevertheless feature the winning entry. The runner-up artwork will also be featured.

The Deitch Leadership Institute and Private Industry Council Office (PIC Office) will soon launch the annual Sophomore Resume Lab (SRL). The SRL is a required, one-time workshop for all members of Class III in which students will build their resume in real time. Senior Nadine Han has been named an Academic All-American by the National Speech and Debate Association. The association’s Academic All-American award recognizes high school students who have earned a degree of Superior Distinction; demonstrated outstanding character and leadership; and have at least a 3.7 GPA. From the association’s more than 140,000 student members, fewer than 1% receive this prestigious honor. Congratulations Nadine!

The BLS Clough Center for Global Understanding is again sponsoring International Education Week programming at BLS, via Zoom, from November 16-20. Programs will run daily both during the school day and after school. Here is the schedule. More info to follow.

The Yellow Submarine Improv Troupe presents “I’m Prov: A Self Reflective Improv Show” on Friday, November 6 at 3pm and 7pm. Performances will be over Zoom. Tickets will be Pay what you can. Student Council will host a virtual Town Hall meeting on Friday (11/6) during the Flex Block. Guests will include Ms. Skerritt and Mr. Mulhern, and the topic will be a general check-in regarding the current virtual learning model. If students would like to attend, please email jlevesque@bostonpublicschools.org for the Zoom link. If students are unable to attend but have feedback to share, they can relay their thoughts to either their homeroom Student Body Representative, to a Student Council member, or to Mr. Levesque, Mr. Mulhern, or Ms. Skerritt directly via email.
