The Supreme Court and my hometown – February break program (Segal) Class III, II, I

The Supreme Court Historical Society, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts are pleased to announce an upcoming Supreme Court and My Hometown program in Boston, Massachusetts, scheduled for February 17-20, 2026 at the at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse. This immersive federal court experience is FREE.

Students will explore the judicial branch through the lens of a local case, Smith v. Goguen (1974). They will engage with federal and state judges, attorneys, historians, professors, and community members to investigate the case and gain an in-depth understanding of how it moved through the state and federal court system. As a culminating activity, the students will create a unique capstone project to educate their community about the impact of the case and the federal court system.
