Sometimes it can be tough to discuss the challenges we, or those around us, face with mental health. Often, we feel ashamed, embarrassed, or like we’re being a burden when we share our struggles. However, talking openly about mental health is one of the best ways to reduce stigma, and break free from feelings of shame and embarrassment. Social media can be a great platform for positive conversations about mental health, but it’s important to remember that it can also be a negative space. We’ll be discussing the effects of social media on mental health in an upcoming SEL bulletin. Educating ourselves and others about different types of mental health systems and ways to support each other is another key way to break down stigmas. Remember, it takes a village to tackle stigmas, including those surrounding mental health.
