🎯 This part: Write your goals down and keep them somewhere visible — a mirror, notebook, or phone lock screen. Celebrate progress, not perfection; each step forward is proof you are closer to accomplishing your goal.

Consistent habits reduce stress and boost confidence because your brain learns what to expect. Remember: healthy habits = healthy mind.
Try this: Pair a new habit with one you already have — for example, review or write down your to-do list right after brushing your teeth. Over time, those small routines stack up to create big results and lasting success.

SEL Tip of the Week: Practice Perspective-Taking – Everyone Has a Story (Vasquez) All Classes
At Boston Latin School, you’re surrounded by students with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We all come from different places and carry different stories, and sometimes, it’s easy to forget that when we’re focused on our own busy lives.
Perspective-taking means making the intentional effort to understand where someone else is coming from. It’s about looking beyond surface-level behavior and asking yourself: “What might this person be experiencing that I don’t see?” This doesn’t mean you’ll always agree with others, but it does help you build empathy, reduce conflict, and treat people with more compassion.
Why this matters at BLS: BLS is a rigorous, fast-paced environment. Everyone is managing a lot, whether that is academic pressure, personal expectations, family responsibilities, or more. So when a classmate seems distracted, frustrated, or even short-tempered, instead of reacting defensively or making assumptions, pause and ask: “Could they be going through something?”
Example: If a group member misses a deadline, instead of immediately blaming them, try starting a conversation: “Hey, I noticed you didn’t get to the slides. Everything okay?” That small moment of empathy could lead to better understanding and stronger teamwork.

National Custodian Appreciation Day – October 2 (Pinchem) All Classes
Greetings students, Thursday, October 2, is National Custodian Appreciation Day. This day is observed annually to recognize the hard work of our custodians who keep our classrooms, hallways, dining hall, and public spaces clean and safe. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge their tireless efforts, often performed behind the scenes, in maintaining pristine and orderly environments for everyone. We have an amazing team of custodians, who do essential work that often goes unnoticed. This day provides an opportunity for the BLS community to show gratitude for their dedication.
Here are 2 ways you could show appreciation:
1. Say “Thank You”: A simple verbal acknowledgment can go a long way in making our custodians feel valued.
2. Create cards and notes: Students can write thank-you cards to show their appreciation for the custodians’ efforts. Visit the table outside the dining hall for supplies or make your own.

SEL Tip of the Week: Your Emotions Are Messages – Listen In (Abrha) All Classes-Updated
Every day brings different emotions: excitement, frustration, nervousness, joy and that’s completely normal. Emotions are like messages that tell us what we’re experiencing and what we might need. The key is not to ignore them, but to understand them.
Example: If you’re feeling anxious before a test, that emotion might be telling you that you care about doing well and that you might need a few minutes to review or take some deep breaths to calm your body and focus your mind.
Tuning into your feelings is a powerful step toward self-awareness and managing stress in healthy ways.

From engaging in cultural exchanges in Soweto and at Lesedi Cultural Village to working alongside local communities in Cape Town through ethical service-learning projects, students will gain a deeper understanding of South Africa’s complex narratives and its spirit of resilience.
