We are excited to announce that BLS B.L.A.C.K. Teach-Ins are back this school year! To kick off Black History Month, the Teach-Ins will take place on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Our theme for this year’s teach-in is “Uplift Black Voices”. This is because a lot of Black stories and voices in the diaspora are often hidden and untold. Educating people about these different stories is of the utmost importance. This year we want to uplift the Black Voices in art, music, poetry, education, science, history, and more.
A teach-in is similar to a general educational forum on any complicated issue, usually involving current political affairs. The main difference between a teach-in and a seminar is the refusal to limit the discussion to a specific time frame or a strict academic scope. Teach-ins are meant to be practical, participatory, and oriented toward action.
We invite you to sign up to lead a 40-minute workshop/session for our teach-in and educate your peers on a topic you are passionate about, using the Google forms linked below. forms.gle/UHHeTD13tbFS4JUn9
Past topics have included “What is affirmative action?”, “Black Lives Matter or All Lives Matter”, and “Colorism and Featurism in Black Communities”. The deadline to complete the Google form is Tuesday, January 16, 2024. If you are interested in leading a workshop/session, please sign up. Both students and teachers are welcome to sign up to lead. If you have any questions or concerns, please email blackatbls@gmail.com.
