Technology and mental health: Technology plays a huge role in our daily lives. It allows us to save time, be informed, self-express, and build connections. However, research has also shown the negative side effects of technology, especially with the increase in social media which include “increased feelings of anxiety and depression,” contributing to “low self-esteem, body image issues” and “decreased productivity and disrupted sleep patterns.” (childfocus.org). There are ways to manage the impact of technology on your mental health. These include setting boundaries such as limiting screen time, unplugging (i.e. participating in tech-free activities), practicing mindful use, and seeking in-person connections (citizenadvocates.net). Remember, balancing how you use technology can be challenging but requires practice and consistency. Check out the link below for additional tips on balancing connection and screen time.
