A New Year, A Fresh Start: Small Steps Matter (Abrha) All Classes
The beginning of the school year is a great time to reset and refocus. Whether you’re working on building new habits, reconnecting with friends, or finding your rhythm with schoolwork, remember that meaningful change doesn’t happen all at once. Small, consistent steps can lead to big growth over time.
Example: If staying organized feels overwhelming, start by picking just one thing, like writing down your homework at the end of each class. Doing that every day builds a habit that supports your success and lowers stress.
Progress matters more than perfection, one small step at a time.

AI Is Not a Safe Space to Get Emotional Support- But Help is Always Nearby
It might be tempting to turn to AI or the internet for support when you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or down, but remember, AI isn’t a therapist, and it can’t replace real human care.
If you’re looking for a safe space to talk, reach out to a trusted adult. That could be a caregiver, close relative, a counselor, a teacher, a school social worker, a coach, an administrator, PCP (primary care physician), an outpatient therapist, or a crisis hotline (calling 988).
You don’t have to go through anything alone; some real people care and are ready to support you.

COLOR Printing Changes in the Library This Year (Ellis / Safran Turner) All Classes
Please read about the color printing process in the library this year because there are some changes from last year:
- Students are limited to 10 color pages per term (Term 1: Sept-Jan, Term 2: Feb-June). Student accounts are re-set on February 1st.
- The color printer is for academic use only. Ask your teacher if printing in color is required for your assignment or if you can print in black and white instead.
- No flyers for events or clubs this year. Ask your advisor for help if you need to print these in color. If you create a flyer in black ink you can make multiple copies on bright paper using the library copier.
Best practices:
- Run a test! Print in black and white first to make sure your document is formatted correctly and prints the way you want it to.
- Follow all posted instructions that walk you through the printing process, especially when printing from Canva.
- Ask a Library Praefect for help if you need assistance! Black and white printing remains the same as last year (unlimited prints).
South Africa 2026! (Pinchem) Class III, II, I
We are planning a trip to visit Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa during February break 2026. This trip will provide BLS students with an opportunity to go deeper in their knowledge of history of Southern Africa and the African Diaspora in America. It will help ensure all students that participate, especially students of color, increase their own self-awareness, self-identity, and self-confidence. There is a great deal of diversity in the student population in Boston Public Schools, and there is one general point of unity; and that’s education within the walls and beyond the walls of the classroom.
This program will take students on a transformational journey through immersive experiences that combine community engagement, service projects, and reflective learning. From engaging in cultural exchanges in Soweto and at Lesedi Cultural Village to working alongside local communities in Cape Town through ethical service-learning projects, students will gain a deeper understanding of South Africa’s complex narratives and its spirit of resilience. Visits to sites such as the Cradle of Humankind, Apartheid Museum, and Robben Island provide critical historical context, while activities like a braai dinner with a local family foster authentic cultural connections. Through leadership and collaboration workshops and activities, essential sessions of reflection, and participation in service projects, this journey challenges students to think deeply about equality, social justice, global responsibility, and their potential for creating positive change.
There will be an interest meeting on Thursday, September 11 at 2:30 PM in Room 114. This meeting is for students that missed the interest meeting in June. If you have already completed the interest form, you are welcome to attend, but not required.
If you have any questions before Thursday’s interest meeting, please see Ms. Pinchem in Room 114 or email her at cpinchem@bostonpublicschools.org
