SEL Tip of the Week: Progress Over Perfection (Clougher) All Classes

Perfection is an impossible goal, but progress is always within reach! Progress is the act of moving forward, improving, or developing in some way. It means making steps—big or small—toward a goal, even if you haven’t reached the final result yet. Instead of stressing about getting everything “just right,” focus on learning and growing. Every mistake is a chance to improve, and every small step forward counts.

Why It Matters: When we aim for perfection, we often feel frustrated, anxious, or afraid to try. But when we focus on progress, we build confidence, resilience, and motivation.

Try This:

  • Instead of saying, “I’ll never get this,” say, “I’m improving with practice.”
  •  Set small, achievable goals instead of aiming for an impossible standard.
  •  Celebrate the effort you put in, even if the outcome isn’t perfect.

Challenge: Even small improvements count as progress. As long as you’re moving forward, you’re making progress! This week, focus on taking one small step forward in something you care about!
