MIT Blueprint (Bilodeau) All Classes

MIT Blueprint is a weekend-long learnathon, and hackathon for local high school students on MIT’s campus on February 18–19, 2023. Each year at Blueprint, 200 high school students gather for a weekend of learning and building. Students have the opportunity to learn the basics of programming, website creation, or iPhone app-making. Students will also have the opportunity to apply their skills to a project and win fantastic prizes. More information at: blueprint.hackmit.org/

Costa Rica Trip 2024! (Bateman) Class IV, V

Attention all Class V and Class IV students! Would you like to travel to Costa Rica next year? The trip is planned for February 17-February 24, 2024 and the cost is approximately $2400. By completing this form, you will be invited to our in-person information session and our parent meeting. While in Costa Rica we will learn about biodiversity and environmental conservation and we will have the opportunity to practice our Spanish-speaking skills. The trip is only open to rising 8th and 9th-grade students (students will be in 9th and 10th grade in 2024). Zoom Presentation on Cell Biology! (Bateman) All Classes (New)

The BLS Biolympiad Club is hosting a presentation session with Dr. Haiming Xu, a researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute focused on genetic and epigenetic regulation in normal and malignant hematopoiesis. He will be giving a talk on concepts of cell cycle progression, regulation, and causes of cancer development. The presentation will take place on Monday, January 30th at 4 pm on zoom. Troubleshooting Chromebook Power Issues (Hourigan) All Classes

If your Chromebook is having trouble charging or turning on, plug it into power, hold the REFRESH key (top row, fourth from the left, looks like a circular arrow), and tap the POWER button. This performs a power reset and in most cases has helped “dead” Chromebooks come back to life.

Composting Audit at BLS (Fogel) All Classes

On Monday, January 23, YouthCAN and Recycling Club will be running a waste audit to calculate the amount of waste we as a school produce on a daily basis. Please put food into the labeled compost bins during breakfast and lunch. It is extremely important that waste is sorted accurately so please help us out. BLS Theatre presents Dontrell, Who Kissed The Sea-Gels All Classes Updated

Gender Sexuality Alliance Seeking Tutors (Murray) Class III, II, I

The Gender Sexuality Alliance is looking for tutors from Class III-Class I for our new LGBTQ+ Study Space. We want to create a safe space for queer students to do their work and receive help from older students like them who can relate to their experiences. Re-Imagine Relationships (Clougher and Stiven) All Classes

Ms. Clougher and Ms. Stiven will be offering two healthy relationship skills groups this spring beginning the week of February 15th during W block. This group will be a safe place for students to learn healthy relationship boundaries and communication strategies. Topics addressed will include friendships, romantic relationships, workplace relationships + with authority figures, conflict resolution, social media, and safety. The 10-12th grade group will run February 15th-April 5th during W Block. The 7-9th grade group will run April 26 – May 31st during W Block. Genes in Space (Bateman) All Classes

Genes in Space is a free experimental design competition where students in grades 7-12 propose research projects to be carried out in space. One winner has their experiment carried out aboard the International Space Station but all contestants learn about current space biology research and engage in the scientific process as they design their experiments.

The Boston Latin Community Corps (BLCDC) is hosting a book drive all throughout the month (Jan 9 – Jan 31) where students can drop by and donate used books that they have in order for community service hours! All books will be donated to the BRYN MAWR BOOKSTORE to be resold. If you are interested, please drop your donation in the box outside of Ms. Moguel’s room (225). BLS Hockey @ Frozen Fenway! (Owens) All Classes

BLS Boys and Girls Hockey will be playing in our own version of the Winter Classic at Frozen Fenway! Both Wolfpack teams will be playing a one-hour scrimmage against Boston Latin Academy. The girls will play on Tuesday, January 10 @ 8 pm and the boys will play on Friday, January 13 @ 8 pm. BLS has been allocated 1,000 tickets. Please come and support the teams! No Tests or Assessments on Three Kings Day, Friday, January 6 (Gallagher) All Classes

In recognition of Three Kings Day, there will be no tests or assessments administered in classes on Friday, January 6.  Three Kings Day, or the Feast of Epiphany, marks the final celebration of the 12 days of Christmas and is celebrated by many Christians world-wide.  Students who observe the holiday will be marked excused upon completion of the student absence form and allowed full makeup privileges.   We wish those who observe the holiday, a joyous Three Kings Day.
