Learning and developing executive function (EF) skills and strategies for students here at BLS is the key to helping scholars reach their academic success goals. Executive function strategies – goal setting, cognitive flexibility, organizing and prioritizing, memorizing, self-checking and monitoring – particularly in our current educational environment are all skills that students can begin to learn and practice.
BLS has now worked with the research-based company SMARTS to develop an EF team trained in the research-based curriculum. Our new and improved program is launching in March 2022!
Students who are having a tough time keeping their school materials organized, turning in work on time, and effectively preparing for tests will now have an interactive program to help them learn and practice these skills.
Program Details: 1. The program will run for 5 weeks.
2. Students will be assigned to a small group that will run once a week with a SMARTS EF BLS Team Member.
3. Groups will run 2:30 – 3:30 pm
4. There will be 4 follow-up one on one coaching check-ins
5. There will be 3 required parent sessions filled with resources!
Topics: These are only a few and we will always have extension activities.
1. Organization
2. Study skills
3. Homework routines
4. Time management
5. Note-taking
6. Purposeful Highlighting
At our workshops, the instructors will teach scholars about the different executive functioning skills and then be given time to practice concrete strategies with their current school materials. Not to mention, these workshops are a lot of fun!
