Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Art and Essay Contest Information (Skerritt) All Classes

We are pleased to launch the art and essay contests for our MLK programming which will take place on Friday, January 14.

ART CONTEST Theme:

“Lift As We Climb” (from the Angela Davis quote in our “T” core value)

Black and white or color drawing, painting, sketch, charcoal, digital media, or other appropriate media capturing the theme of young people making an impact on the future of our world. Electronic submissions to blsmlkcelebration@gmail.com (take a quality photo of the hard copy if needed) Due Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 2:30 pm.

Selected artwork will be featured in the MLK virtual program and event. Prize: $100 to first place winner

ESSAY CONTEST Topic:

What does it mean to “honor our history, speak truth to the present, and lead into the future?” (the “H” in our THRIVE core values)

Format: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double spaced, 300-400 words (name and homeroom at top) Essays should respond to the prompt, but there is flexibility to approach this question in myriad ways. Strong essays educate, inspire, and capture your authentic voice.
