Black History Month Door Decorating Contest is Back! (Pinchem & Metayer) All Classes

Despite the double pandemics of COVID-19 and racism that our country is still facing, BLS B.L.A.C.K. has decided to sponsor a modified door decorating contest to celebrate Black History Month in 2021. In a virtual space, we feel it’s important to celebrate Black History Month across the BLS community with positive and creative displays of African American achievements, culture, and history using the zoom background feature or by creating your own art to display.

The contest is open to all BLS students, teachers, administrators, and staff. You can participate as an individual or a group.

Here are some options: If you have a green screen… • Choose your own zoom background that celebrates Black culture, history, or achievements •

Choose one of the designs from last year’s door decorating contest. The link to the folder is included in this announcement. This last option is really special and serves as a reminder of the great work we did as a school community to celebrate Black History Month before the pandemic shut down our entire world. For those that haven’t had a chance to visit to building since last March, some of the door displays are still up.

If you do not have a green screen…

• Create your own art that celebrates Black culture, history, or achievements and display it on the wall or door behind you when you’re on camera

• Display a picture, cloth, statue, or book (s) that celebrates Black culture, history, or achievements behind you when you’re on camera

If you want to participate, please choose a day or day (s) starting February 9 – 12 or February 22 – 24, 2021 to change your zoom background or add your art to the wall or door behind you when you’re on camera. Take a screenshot and send it to blackatbls@gmail.com by Wednesday, February 24. We will display the screenshots on a Padlet and announce the winners at our BLS B.L.A.C.K. Annual Showcase on Friday, February 26. The winners will have a nice gift mailed to them, courtesy of our BLSA.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please reach out to Ms. Pinchem at cpinchem@bostonpublicschools.org or Mrs. Metayer at rdelormemetayer@bostonpublicschools.org We look forward to “seeing” your displays and thank you, in advance, for your participation.
